Formosa Vex 2021 Tipping Point celebrated its eleventh edition this year, receiving recognition as a VEX Signature Event for the first time. The REC Foundation has marked the TAS event as a World Class competition that provides an experience that mimics that of Vex Worlds.
It is fitting that this year Formosa Vex will also grant two spots for the first in-person Vex World Championship. The two teams selected from this event include teams from the American School in Taichung and Curious Robotics in Hsinchu.
This year 36 teams participated in the event representing 21 different institutions - the highest number ever. Spots were fully booked once again within days of the opening of registrations.
VEX robotics continues to expand in Taiwan, deepening its impact on the lives of young STEM students.
This year, the game was called Tipping Point and featured plenty of excitement and close matches in the Upper School Gym as the teams figured out different strategies to win the game.
According to the event organizer and upper school teacher, Dr. Carlos Delgado Mata, this year, the sports cliche "offense wins games, but defense wins championships" was clearly applied to this World Class robotics tournament.
TAS was well represented by 4 upper school teams and by 3 middle school teams. The upper school TAS team 4253B, "Raid Zero B," placed highest of the TAS teams in fifth place. This TAS team also received the Innovate Award.
The American School in Taichung's team 66799A and 66899A took both first and third place respectively with total high scores of 480 and 441. AST-onishing A (6679A) also received the Excellence Award for the High School division, the Tournament Finalist award, the Robot Skills Champion, and the Create Award. Skywalker Robotic's team 980S clinched second place with a score of 470, earning them the Tournament Champions award and a Design Award.
