The Georgetown experience included a year in Taiwan at National Taiwan Normal University in 1983, his first opportunity to live in Taiwan. Since then, he has lived and worked in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. He and his wife Ann have two alumni children, Carl Jr. '16 and Jessica '18, both of whom attended TAS since kindergarten.

He has worked for banks as well as in the software industry: Bank of Boston, Standard Chartered Bank, TradeCard, and as Managing Director for Transaction Banking for Greater China for Deutsche Bank. He was also formerly the Chief Representative of a technology firm, TradeCard (now GTNexus) in China and set up their sales and operations teams in Asia starting in 2000. Carl is currently working as Managing Director, Head of Asia at R3.
