Bio: Mr. John Hwang

John brings strong business background to the Board. He has been both a successful Silicon Valley entrepreneur as well as a global corporate executive for companies such as Yahoo! and Nokia, and holds a BS in Computer Science from Stanford University and an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Raised in New York, John has lived in Taipei with his wife Lee Ming (formerly of Yeh! Cake) and three kids for over five years, and they plan to be at TAS through graduation. With his Taiwanese heritage and having lived and worked in Canada, Denmark, Finland, Australia, and now Taiwan, John and his family enjoy the school’s international community.

John has been a long-time advocate for TAS. For instance, John has contributed greatly to the PTA as the Grounds chairperson for five consecutive events. He has also been an all-season coach for TYPA, and is now the founder of FC Tigers, a competitive soccer club for TAS LS and MS students. If you haven’t seen him on the pitch, you have surely heard his voice, as he always proudly (and loudly) supports TAS students.

It goes without saying that John and his family are honored to be at TAS. On or off the Board, John is committed to furthering the 3 P’s of TAS – programs, people, place. He works tirelessly to ensure that world-class programs continue to come and be developed at TAS to help students fulfill their potential. He firmly believes that a school is only as good as its people and is committed to supporting the staff and teachers of TAS accordingly. John also endeavors to help transform TAS into a place that supports diverse student interests with the latest and greatest equipment and facilities. Through his leadership experience, his innovative approach, and his strategic thinking, John works to advance TAS as a 21st century learning community.
