Bio: Mr. Joseph Hwang

Joseph was born in the United States and grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. He attended Taipei American School for eighth and ninth grades before moving to the United States. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and his J.D. from Tulane University School of Law.

After graduating from law school, he worked as an attorney in the San Francisco, Taipei, and Shanghai offices of global law firms. His practice and representation focuses on corporate transactions, investments, and mergers and acquisitions, as well as education projects between the U.S. and Greater China. He has experience representing U.S. universities in their cooperation programs in China and advising them on related accreditation compliance and reporting work.

Joseph and his wife Katie have three children, one in the Middle School and two in the Upper School divisions.

After joining the TAS Board of Directors, Joseph became active in governance work. He has served as Board Vice Chair, and currently serves as the Chair of the Governance Committee whereby he works with committee members to establish key governance goals and focus areas, best practices, and training to ensure that the Board continues to meet the needs and challenges of the school.

As a TAS alumnus, he is excited to share, promote, and communicate the value and quality of the TAS experience.
