Bio: Ms. Cara Clark


At the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), Carolyn “Cara” Clark is Principal of the Chinese Language and Area Studies School, an intensive, advanced study program for diplomats preparing for onward assignments at Chinese-speaking posts. 

Cara’s career in the U.S. Department of State has spanned over two decades. She served diplomatic tours across Asia and the Middle East as Policy Officer, Political-Military Advisor, Public Affairs Officer, Information Officer, and Consular Officer. Cara was also a Fellow at the Combating Terrorism Center at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where she taught cadets International Relations and consulted for the Army as a civilian Subject Matter Expert. 

Originally from Florida and Pittsburgh, Cara and her husband have one son. Cara holds a B.A. in Government from Harvard University and a Master of Theological Studies with a focus on Islam from Harvard Divinity School. She speaks Chinese, Arabic, and French in addition to her native English. She is also a certified Fitness Instructor (AFAA), Wellness Coach (NASM), and dancer with over thirty years of experience performing, coaching, and teaching.
