Grades KA-8 English Language Development

Taipei American School is a multilingual environment, with many students, faculty, and staff speaking multiple languages. In our lower and middle schools, all students have the opportunity to develop their social and academic English language skills across all classes with their peers. There is no separate program or fee for English language development at TAS.

A Focus on Multilingualism

At Taipei American School, we celebrate the multilingualism of our families. All teachers are language teachers who promote English language development across all learning experiences.

English Language Development

In Lower and Middle School, we use the sheltered immersion model to engage multilingual learners at varying English language development stages in the same learning experiences as their peers. In this model, all students learn together all day and benefit from the linguistic diversity of their classroom.

Multilingual learners at various stages of language development, including those who are new to English, can be socially and academically successful in our early elementary program. Beginning in Grade 3, the language and literacy expectations of our curriculum require that students are already developing their English language skills in order to independently access the curriculum. You can learn more about English language skills and enrollment in Grades 3 -12 on our admissions page.
