This course is designed to help students develop foundational proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with a stronger focus on listening and speaking, and to prepare them for further study of Mandarin. A communicative approach is used to introduce vocabulary and language structures through meaningful, real-life contexts.
Authentic materials and cultural content are integrated throughout the course to support language development and to foster an appreciation of Chinese-speaking cultures and customs. Through a variety of activities, students build essential vocabulary and sentence patterns to support their growth in communication.
This course is aligned with the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.
