Advanced Debate gives students the opportunity to practice debate skills in more depth. Students use a modified version of the Public Forum (PF) debate format as a tool for strengthening their argumentation, refutation, flowing, and research skills. Students view and critique PF debates, research and write arguments on the current NSDA PF resolution, and hold partial and half-time rounds. Students also participate in a wide variety of targeted drills and games. In addition to improving students’ debating abilities, this class helps prepare students to write stronger argumentative essays, speak in public with more confidence, and do more sophisticated research.  Advanced debate is designed for students interested in competitive debate.  Students interested in developing their argumentation and discussion skills should consider public speaking or ethics.
