Learn more about the Grade 8 Science curriculum
In Grade 8, students continue their integrated curriculum experience by studying life, physical, and chemical science, with a focus on the physical sciences. Units of study include Structure & Function in Living Systems, Astronomy, Density & Buoyancy, and Matter & Chemistry. Students learn to think and act like scientists, before learning to apply the concepts presented in each unit of study. One of the main goals of the course is to develop and refine scientific skills such as predicting, observing, problem solving, documenting, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating. These skills will be practiced using the traditional scientific method and the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math) design process. Students engage in a variety of learning activities such as lab experiments, demonstrations, presentations, projects, traditional assessments, and collaborative group work.
