Learn more about our Music Mix class

Music Mix is a non-performance-based music class that provides Grade 7 and 8 students opportunities in creating music.  Students explore the different elements of music: melody, rhythm, harmony, form, timbre and expression, and learn how to manipulate these elements to create their own music.  In addition to creating music, students also study major music theory concepts, do focused listening and study important concepts that affect music and its usage today - topics like music copyright, fair use and creative commons, as well as the effects and implications of technology on music on today’s society.  Technology plays a large role in helping music mix students develop a strong skill set in creating music.  Technology experiences include but are not limited to developing proficiency with web-based technology and specialized music software.  Specialized music software for notation of original music compositions; remixing software for creation of music as well as videos and animations; music theory software for a differentiated music theory learning; and recording software used in acquiring music recording techniques, are just a few of the ways that technology is utilized for the purpose of music learning in this course.
