This course harnesses the power of simple machines in grand and impressive ways. The student experience initially fluctuates between an understanding of the physics behind simple machines (screw, wheel and axle, lever, inclined plane, wedge and pulley) and basic construction/building skills. After this, students are faced with a grand challenge that can only be met by using what they have learned about simple machines and building. They must design and construct structures at a large scale in order to complete this mystery challenge. Students that sign up for this course should be interested in real-life problem solving, designing, large scale construction and the application of physics.
