Planning a Visit to TAS

We  appreciate your interest in our students and are delighted that you are considering a visit to TAS. Below is some information we would like you to know about as you consider a potential visit to our school.

  • College visits are usually scheduled during the morning break between 10:35 -11:25AM or during lunch times at 12:15 -1:15PM.
  • Please refer to the TAS Academic Calendars as starting points to schedule your visit.

Once you have identified a possible date, please request a visit time here or you can contact John Gursky, the college counselor who coordinates college visits for the office. John can be reached by email at gurskyj@tas.edu.tw.

Instructions for Your Visit to TAS

Check the weather
Taipei can bring inclement weather including heat, rain and the rare monsoon. We recommend that you check the weather forecast using the Taiwan Central Weather Bureau: http://www.cwb.gov.tw/eng/

Directions to TAS
By far, the easiest way to get to TAS is by taxi. Below is the address in Chinese. Simply print this page and present it to the taxi driver. You may also want to consult your hotel concierge if you have any questions or call the college counseling office at 886-2-7750-9900 ext. 228 or 226. This number will work if you are using a US based cell phone or a Taiwanese based cell phone.

請載我去天母的台北美國學校。地址是台北市中山北路 6 段 800 號,謝謝!
(Please drive me to Taipei American School in Tianmu. The address is 800 Zhongshan N. Rd, Sec 6, Taipei. Thank you!)

Arriving on Campus
The taxi driver will most likely drop you off directly in front of the TAS security gate on Zhongshan North Road. You will need to check in with the security guard to obtain your TAS visitor pass.

Once you have passed through security and obtained your visitor pass, please wait in the main lobby for someone to escort you to our office.

Going Green: A Note About Flyers and Materials
TAS is a green friendly school. We advertise all college visits electronically on a monitor outside our office and no longer display printed flyers. Similarly, we encourage you to pack a modest number of print materials because we do not store brochures.

Other Area High Schools

After scheduling your visit with TAS, we are happy to help you connect with other area high schools. Please contact John Gursky wtih questions.

Other Miscellaneous Information

Please note that it may take up to 1.5 hours to travel from the Taoyuan International Airport to TAS. A taxi ride from Taoyuan Airport to TAS should cost no more than $NT1,500. Hiring a private car from the airport to your hotel should also cost no more than $NT1,500.

Taxis in Taiwan are reliable and relatively inexpensive (more affordable than a private car from your hotel to TAS). Taipei does have an excellent bus and train system. However, the nearest train station to the TAS campus is about a 25 minute walk.

Please also note that you should allow up to 2 hours of travel time if you plan to travel to Hsinchu, and 3 hours if you intend to visit Kaohsiung. You should consult the train schedules in advance to better understand your travel time constraints. The train schedules and ticketing information can be found here: http://www.thsrc.com.tw/en/

Hotel Suggestions:
You may find the Taiwan Tourism Bureau’s website (http://eng.taiwan.net.tw) helpful in finding accommodations in Taipei as well as the rest of the island. However we have provided a few hotel suggestions below based on proximity to the TAS campus.

Private Drivers:
Although taxis are extremely reliable and relatively inexpensive you may find having a private driver more convenient, especially if you are traveling in a group and/or traveling to Hsinchu.

High Speed Trains:
Along with private drivers, the easiest way to get around Taiwan is by using the high speed rail network: http://www.thsrc.com.tw/en/.
