USIC & Library

The Upper School Information Commons (USIC) supports teaching and learning of Information Literacy (IL) skills and competencies. IL is understood as: the ability to access, evaluate, and use information efficiently, effectively, critically, creatively, and ethically for personal, social, or global purposes.

Philosophy for teaching and learning: If students are to become confident, creative, caring, and moral individuals prepared to adapt and succeed anywhere in a rapidly changing world, it is critical that they are information literate. The key to successful teaching and learning of IL skills and competencies is through their integration into relevant and meaningful curricular contexts, something often achieved through active collaboration between classroom teachers and the librarian.
