Academics

Committed to Learning

At Taipei American School, students experience the daily joys and challenges of an engaging, broad-based American education.

We offer an accredited International Baccalaureate diploma program, Advanced Placement and College preparatory classes, and follow an American curriculum. Our curriculum is instructed in English and all students can take Mandarin, starting in Kindergarten.

We are guided by our belief that failure is a critical aspect of learning and an essential experience for developing resilience and a growth mindset.

Nurtured by a supportive community, TAS students of all ages are empowered to embrace learning experiences that push their knowledge, skills, and mindset forward every day.

Where Curiosity and Challenge Meet

Hear from Amanda Jacob, Dean of Teaching and Learning, about the KA-12 academic program at TAS.

Each child is unique, with their own strengths, interests, and dreams. Our American-style curriculum is flexible enough to cater to each student, allowing them to shine in their own light. It's about fostering a sense of identity and self-worth early on.

Curriculum and Diplomas: Where Excellence and Exploration Meet

Taipei American School is one of the few schools in Asia to offer a range of both International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Placement (AP) courses.

Our written curriculum is standards based, and the Understanding by Design framework underpins all classes from Grades KA–12. We take a holistic approach to American education, and demand both a high standard of academic performance while developing the skills needed for our students’ future success, including collaboration, leadership, balance, as well as trying, failing, and trying again—we believe this is what makes our students truly great.

For over seven decades, Taipei American School has transformed the lives of our students and celebrated their success across diverse fields in Taiwan and abroad. We hope you will join us as we seek to educate the next generation of young people who are eager and unafraid to change the world.

Proud Partnerships

TAS is proud to hold accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and is currently finishing the two-year, regular re-accreditation process during SY23-24. We are also proud members of EARCOS, the East Asia Regional Council of Schools, and IASAS, the Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asia Schools. You can see more of our affiliations and programs below.

Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

Even when the school day ends, our students continue to grow. At Taipei American School, we strive to develop the whole child, which includes healthy minds, bodies, and spirits. Whether your child is an artist, athlete, creator, musician, engineer, or simply a curious explorer, there is something for everyone in our co-curricular offerings, from official school programs to student-run clubs.

In additional to curricular experiences in the classroom, students at Taipei American School have world of opportunities available while class is not in session. From Kindergarten A through Grade 12, hundreds of co-curricular opportunities invite students to explore their interests, discover their passions, and achieve their personal best.

It is the creative problem-solving and curiosity engendered by trying, failing, and trying again, that makes our students truly great. Authentic learning must coexist with failure.
