What is an American education?
Great question! We encourage all future Tigers to become familiar with the TAS mission, values, and beliefs, which establish that TAS will provide a "broad American-based education." We define this as combining educational standards and benchmarks from the United States with an understanding of and appreciation for global cultures, societies, and perspectives. Building our students' global perspectives is also explicitly incorporated into both the TAS mission and our schoolwide learning outcomes.
TAS provides a broad American-based education for learners aged 4-18.
We are deeply committed to American educational ideals and curriculum including problem-solving, discussions, project-based learning, service-learning, and experiential education. We embrace educational technology while also honoring the importance of hands-on learning, creativity, and interpersonal skills.
We place great emphasis on honoring the culture of our home island, Taiwan.
Our students begin learning Mandarin in Kindergarten. We provide additional opportunities for learning other global languages in Middle School and Upper School - and we make sure that our multiple language learners are supported and feel that their culture is welcomed and valued here.
In short, we hope to bring the best of American education while preserving and protecting the rich culture of Taiwan and our students' many other cultural identities!
