Dear TAS Parents and Community Members,
I hope that you have read my two earlier messages this week, which related to the coronavirus and our school's plans to respond to its deadly threat. We have learned more, and thus we will do more.
We have been told that the incubation of the virus appears to be up to 14 days, and medical authorities suggest that a person exposed to the virus remains "infectious" during that period. Medical authorities also tell us that even if there are no symptoms, a person remains capable of spreading the virus within our community during this time even if symptom free. Thus, I am asking that any person who traveled to mainland China, or who has a household member who traveled to the mainland during the Lunar New Year holiday, stay at home and self-monitor for two full weeks.
For example, if a household member returned from the mainland on January 22nd, then the self-monitor period would be January 22 plus 14 days, which would bring that person to February 5; in this hypothetical example, there would be no lost time for that community member to return to school on February 6, when we open, and they would pose no increased risk to other people. Please follow this expectation if you or a family member traveled to mainland China over the break.
Students have access to our online learning programs designed for emergencies such as this. Students will be supported by their teachers and will not miss any content. The Upper School and Middle School use Canvas as an online instructional tool, while the Lower School uses SeeSaw. We are asking that if you are a parent and if you or your student has traveled to the mainland, or anyone who was in your house has traveled there during the Lunar New Year holiday, please identify yourself directly to the divisional principal immediately:
• Lower School Principal Mrs. Tara Simeonidis, simeonidist@tas.tw
School will reopen on Thursday, February 6th as previously announced, barring any new developments.
