Dear Parents,
Last night, each divisional principal emailed you with detailed information regarding how online learning will proceed between now and February 25. Please read those messages carefully for the full details with which you will need to be familiar.
That said, I do want to emphasize certain key points about each of those messages, to ensure everyone is on the same page and hopefully further assure you that our students will be receiving exceptional instruction even during this closure of our campus:
Lower School: Teachers will be posting learning activities on Seesaw by 8:00am each day, Monday through Friday. Students will need to be supervised while they are online, and they will need your help and support as they engage with their digital learning. Because expectations are very different for students in KA and those in Grade 5, your child's teacher will be contacting you with more detailed information. Attendance will be taken.
Middle School: School will be in virtual session from 9:00am until 3:30pm each day, Monday through Friday. All communication will start on Canvas, and students are expected to be online and engaged in their learning during those times. Core classes will meet on alternating days according to a set schedule, and PE and performing arts teachers will be providing suggested activities and exercises for students to complete as well. Students will not be expected to complete homework outside of those established 9:00-3:30 hours. Attendance will be taken.
Upper School: As in the MS, school will be in virtual session from 9:00am until 3:30pm each day, Monday through Friday. Teachers will post announcements and assignments on Canvas, and all classes will meet according to a modified version of our alternating A/B day schedule. Teachers will let students know if there is specific work or activities that need to be completed during class. Otherwise, students will be provided with work that can be done independently during that time. Classes listed in the course catalog as "moderate" or "heavy" may also have homework that will need to be completed outside of class time. Attendance will be taken.
In all divisions, teachers will be closely monitoring student learning. They will ensure students do not fall behind, and they will be evaluating the extent to which they will need additional time with their students once we are back on campus.
As you know, the principals have already made some changes to our calendar in order to make sure we have time for that additional on-campus learning. We will be sure to let you know if we decide that any further changes will be necessary. Already, principals have decided to re-think use of parent conference days, professional development day, exam days. We believe we can pick up several days for instruction that would have otherwise been used for testing or parent conferencing or possibly professional development day.
I hope this gives you a better sense of how learning will continue, even as our campus is closed, and that it helps reassure you that we will continue to meet our high standards for instruction even during this challenging time.
Regardless, as always, please do not hesitate to continue contacting me or your principals should you have any other questions or concerns.
