Dear Parents of TAS 8th graders,
Firstly, I hope that you and your family are doing well.
A lot has transpired since my e-notice letter to you on January 21 concerning the upper school course selections. I am writing to you now to inform you about the need to revise the schedule for our upper school course selection process. It is not possible to continue with the same timeline communicated in my January letter.
Assuming we resume classes on campus on February 25th as planned, the following change is confirmed:
We will now hold the World Language Placement Tests on Tuesday, March 3 after school (3:45 p.m. in Upper School B-block 4th floor World Language classrooms. Once again this test is for students not currently in a particular TAS language program that they would like to try next year AND with some prior knowledge of that language (Japanese, Spanish, or Mandarin). Students entering the beginning level 1 of a new language do NOT need to take a placement test. Likewise, students continuing with the same language next year that they are taking this year do NOT need to take a placement test. Students must sign up for this test and they may do so in person in the US World Languages Office (4B19) prior to 3:45 p.m. on March 2. Or, they may sign up online by filling out the information in the form at the following link: https://forms.gle/YJiFtazNu2Hc99Rt9 by 3:45 p.m. on March 2. You can share this link with your child, however your 8th grader will also receive this link from Mr. Pettigrew.
The new dates for the course selection meeting for 8th grade students, the morning meeting for the 8th grade parents, and the evening Q&A for parents of 8th thru 11th graders have NOT yet been confirmed. As a consequence, the actual dates for the course sign ups to take place in PowerSchool have not yet been confirmed either. It is remotely possible that the entire process might just be moved back a week. However, there are other possibilities that are being explored as well. As the days go by we should have more and more information and we are hopeful that we can provide you with a definite timeline as soon as possible.
In the meantime I hope your 8th grade child is making good progress with the current online learning.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility during these challenging few (hopefully) weeks.
Once again - we in the upper school are excited about working with your child in the coming years. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mr. Ryan Haynes - Director of Upper School Academic/Personal Counseling (haynesr@tas.tw or extension 224), Ms. Song Han - US counselor for the rising Class of 2024 (hans@tas.tw or extension 224) or me (vandenboomj@tas.tw or extension 214).
Best regards,
