Confidence, Kindness, and a Little Pink Power: TAS Upper School Brings Legally Blonde to Life

Confidence, Kindness, and a Little Pink Power: TAS Upper School Brings Legally Blonde to Life

The stage glowed pink as Taipei American School’s Upper School students took audiences on an unforgettable journey through Harvard Law in Legally Blonde: The Musical. Performed from October 30 to November 1, this year’s production brought together over 100 students, faculty, and staff in a celebration of confidence, collaboration, and creative expression.

Auditions began just days after the school year started, launching months of rehearsals filled with singing, dancing, and set design. Students worked tirelessly to master intricate choreography and complex harmonies while learning what it means to build a production from the ground up.

Austin Farwell, the Director and acting teacher at TAS, remarked, "We had an amazing group this year, and it was fantastic to see all the incredible collaboration that took place in just 8 short weeks.” He went on, “From the pit, to backstage, to the sound booth, to the stage, our students had their hands in every aspect of the production. Live theatre is one of the best places for our whole community to get together and truly celebrate one another. It's about connection, community, and giving.”

The dazzling performances, complete with live music from the student pit orchestra, colorful costumes, and professional-level stage design, reflected the dedication of the entire TAS arts community. Teachers, student leaders, and crew members collaborated behind the scenes to ensure that every detail, from lighting cues to quick costume changes, ran seamlessly.

For many students, the musical was also a meaningful reminder of the themes at the heart of Legally Blonde: resilience, kindness, and self-belief. Through its humor and heart, the musical captured what TAS values most: students learning to express themselves, support one another, and take bold steps outside their comfort zones. As the final notes faded and the cast took their bows, the audience’s cheers reflected what everyone felt. Legally Blonde was a triumph of performance and teamwork.

Congratulations to everyone who made this production possible: cast, crew, orchestra, set and costume designers, and faculty. Once again, the TAS stage came alive with heart, humor, and a whole lot of pink power.
