Speed, Strength, and Spirit on Display: Tiger Classic Track Meet Returns to TAS

Speed, Strength, and Spirit on Display: Tiger Classic Track Meet Returns to TAS

On Friday, March 13 and Saturday March 14, Taipei American School welcomed more than 340 student-athletes from 14 international schools across Asia for two days of high-level competition at TAS. The event highlighted athletic excellence, sportsmanship, and the energy of a community united in support of student athletes.

Participating schools represented a wide range of countries, including Taiwan, the Philippines, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and China. Schools in attendance included International School Manila, St. Mary’s (Tokyo), Seisen (Tokyo), Kubasaki (Okinawa), International School Bangkok, International School Kuala Lumpur, Singapore American School, Western Academy of Beijing, Concordia International School Shanghai, Morrison Academy Taipei and Taichung, Ivy Collegiate Academy, Taipei European School, and TAS.

Over two days of competition, athletes gathered on the TAS track to test their speed, strength, and determination across a full slate of events. From explosive sprints to endurance races, and from technical field events to team relays, each moment reflected the dedication and preparation behind the scenes.

The meet unfolded with a strong sense of energy and purpose. Teammates lined the track cheering one another on, coaches offered steady guidance, and spectators filled the stands, creating an atmosphere that was both competitive and deeply supportive. For many athletes. The Tiger Classic was an opportunity not only to compete, but to measure personal growth and push beyond previous limits.

The weekend saw numerous personal bests and several new records across participating schools. Among the standout performances was TAS student-athlete Sawyer S (‘26), who delivered exceptional results in distance events. He set a new Tiger Classic and TAS record in the boys 3000m with a time of 08:51.48, surpassing his own previous TAS record of 09:07.40 and breaking the Tiger Classic set in 2019. He also set a new TAS and Tiger Classic record in the boys 800m with a time of 01:57.23, improving upon the previous TAS record set in 2012 and the previous Tiger Classic record.

Throughout the weekend, moments of perseverance and breakthrough defined the experience. Whether it was a final sprint to the finish line, a personal best in a field event, or a relay team finding their rhythm, the meet captured the essence of student athletics at the best.

Beyond the results, the Tiger Classic continues to reflect something larger. It is a gathering that brings together diverse school communities through a shared commitment to sport, discipline, and mutual respect. Athletes competed fiercely, yet supported one another across school lines, demonstrating the values that define international school athletics.

The success of an event this scale relies on a collective effort. From the TAS Athletics Department and faculty to student and parent volunteers, event staff, and host families, countless individuals contributed to creating a seamless and welcoming experience of all participants.

As the final races concluded and teams prepared to depart, what remained was more than a list of results. It was a weekend of connection, growth, and pride – one that continues to shape the Tiger Classic as a meaningful tradition at TAS.
