TAS Clubs Celebrate Pride in Taipei

TAS Clubs Celebrate Pride in Taipei

Our Tigers didn’t let the weather rain on their parade!

Last week, the Upper School LGBTQ+ Alliance and the Middle School Rainbow Tigers collaborated to celebrate Pride. Throughout the week, Upper School and Middle School students had the opportunity to make friendship bracelets during their lunch breaks. On Saturday, students and teachers staffed a booth at Taipei City’s Pride Parade, where they gave away these bracelets along with flags and stickers.

Despite the rain, the energy at the market booth was vibrant. Upper School students chatted with peers from another international school  at the neighboring booth, enjoying a fantastic opportunity for community connection. Teachers rotated in and out for seamless supervision, and many TAS families stopped by to say hello and pick up the handmade swag. Memorable moments included a TAS alumnus from the Class of 1998 who visited the booth and shared how much it meant to him to see TAS represented at the market, along with a friendly hello from a retired TAS employee.

Many attendees expressed admiration for TAS and other participating schools for the clubs that support their LGBTQ+ students, sharing the alumnus’ wish for a similar group during their own school years. Clubs at TAS, from social clubs, language clubs, or human-interest clubs, play an important role in how TAS students develop their competencies across our Schoolwide Learning Outcomes (SWLOs). When students have the agency to follow their interests and to link their understanding to the world around them, they’re able to take steps beyond the classroom to become Globally-Minded Contributors and Critical and Creative Thinkers.
