TAS Hosts Largest University Fair in Taiwan for 4th Year

TAS Hosts Largest University Fair in Taiwan for 4th Year

On Sunday, September 8, the Taipei American School (TAS) campus was packed with excited visitors as we proudly hosted the College Association of Taiwan (CAT) University Fair, the largest and most comprehensive university fair in Taiwan and one of the largest in Asia. The event attracted over 130 university representatives from 12 countries and drew more than 1,600 students from TAS and over 20 international and bilingual high schools across Taiwan.

The structure of the fair was designed with students' needs in mind. Grade 11 students could explore their options from 10:00 AM to 11:50 AM, while Grade 12 students attended from 12:10 PM to 2:00 PM. Students who registered in advance were assigned personal QR Codes that the university reps could scan at their tables for further outreach. This arrangement allowed for us to welcome as many students as possible, while giving students and college representatives time to engage meaningfully. College representatives appreciated the schedule, with one saying, "With the two separate sessions, we appreciated not having to face too many students at once, which allowed us some valuable time to rest between interactions."

In addition to hundreds of happy attending students and families, feedback from participating colleges was overwhelmingly positive. One admission officer remarked, "You did a phenomenal job organizing the college fair. Your attention to detail was beyond anything I have experienced in nearly 40 years as an admission officer!" Another representative added, "Best fair I've attended! The staff and students were helpful and went above and beyond. We were really well taken care of." Thank you to our College Counseling teams and our student volunteers for helping make this event a success!

The CAT University Fair provides high school students in Taiwan with direct access to a diverse range of higher education institutions from around the world. It also serves as a significant networking opportunity for colleges and universities looking to connect with prospective students. TAS's role in hosting this landmark event attests to its leadership in the international education community and commitment to supporting the educational aspirations of students across Taiwan. John Gursky, Upper School College Counselor at TAS, emphasized the significance of the fair, "We are proud that this fair is known in university circles internationally and in our professional organizations as being one of the best in the world."

According to Mr. Gursky, students and families weren’t the only beneficiaries of this year’s CAT Fair, “We helped facilitate conversation and interactions between college admission officers and over 50 college counselors and administrators from high schools across Taiwan. This dialogue between college counselors and admissions officer helps us all,” he said.

In addition to providing ample opportunities for learning, the CAT Fair also offered a chance to showcase other TAS programs. Our Robotics students created a robot that served admissions officers bubble tea before and after the fair, applying their technical skills to a fun and tasty project! TAS's architecture students displayed their award-winning projects, while student musicians performed on the flute and violin during the reception lunch for college representatives. These features provided a unique, engaging experience for the visiting universities’ representatives, and helped us show our TAS spirit in more ways than one!

As host and organizer of Taiwan’s largest CAT University Fair, connecting thousands of families from around our island with hundreds of colleges and universities from around the world shows TAS's leadership role in fostering educational opportunities for all. Let’s salute all the workers and volunteers who contributed and work to make next year even better.
