TAS Robotics Excel at VEX Taiwan Open

TAS Robotics Excel at VEX Taiwan Open

During Winter Break, Upper and Middle School TAS VEX teams attended the VEX Taiwan Open Tournament, held in Taipei at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. The event is the VEX Robotics National Championship for Taiwan and determines who will advance to the next round of global competitions. Forty-two teams from across the island competed for a chance to attend the World Championships in Dallas, Texas, this May.

Upper School Teams

Team 4253S won the Think Award, which recognizes the most effective and consistent use of coding techniques and programming design solutions to solve the game challenge. Dubbed the “High Stakes” challenge, teams competed to place the most rings on stakes around the field. Team member Remiel L. ‘26 was chosen from students worldwide to serve on the Student Advisory Board at the VEX World Championship, where he will share his perspective and experience with the organization’s leadership.

Team 4253Z claimed second place overall in the Skills Challenge category and qualified for the World Championship! The Skills Challenge combined autonomous (computer controlled) and driver (human controlled) portions with the objective to score as many points as possible within a limited amount of time. At present they are ranked 21st in the world among over 4,300 competing teams. This is an impressive feat, especially for a team composed entirely of Grade 9 students!

Teams 4253Y and 4253V finished the qualifying rounds ranked in the top half of all competitors—a noteworthy achievement in a tournament with such a high level of competition.

Team 4253R won the Build Award, which recognizes robots designed and constructed with a high degree of attention to detail, ensuring they can withstand the rigors of competition.

Middle School Teams

Team 4813A (Terminus) secured the top seed in the qualification rounds with an impressive and commanding performance. In the elimination rounds, they finished as Tournament Finalists, won the Excellence Award, and claimed a decisive victory in the Skills Challenge—earning them a place in the World Championships.

Team 4183B (Stubby) wielded a next-level robot design and demonstrated exceptional driving strategies in the head-to-head matches, securing third place overall in the tournament—an impressive result.

Team 4813C (Under Dawgs) also competed in the VEX Taiwan Open and advanced to the elimination rounds.

Japan Tournament

More recently, at the ASIJ V5 RC Robotics Tournament held in Japan during Lunar New Year Break, TAS teams emerged as tournament finalists, captured the tournament championship and brought home the Design Award and Excellence Award.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the TAS VEX Robotics teams for their outstanding achievements at the VEX Taiwan Open and in Japan! Their hard work, dedication, and innovative problem-solving skills continue to inspire the community.

On top of their success in Taiwan, the Guinness Book of World Records has recognized the VEX Robotics Competition as the largest in the world, making these accomplishments even more remarkable. Good luck to all teams heading to the World Championships in Dallas—your Tiger pride will shine on the global stage!
