Tiger Tuesday: A New Tradition for the TAS Community

Tiger Tuesday: A New Tradition for the TAS Community

This year, Taipei America School introduced Tiger Tuesday as a new way to bring the community together – an intentional moment in the school calendar dedicated to celebrating what it means to be part of TAS.

The initiative was created with a clear purpose: build stronger connections across divisions and create shared experiences that unite students, faculty, and staff. As one of the organizers, Donna Cheng shared, “we wanted to create something that brings our entire community together in a visible and meaningful way – where every student, from our youngest learners to our seniors, feel connected as part of the TAS journey.”

Throughout the day, the campus took on a noticeably different energy. Students, parents, faculty, and staff showed up in bright, TAS gold and blue t-shirts, creating a unified visual expression of school pride. Cheerleaders energized the crowd with chants and choreographed routines, while parent volunteers helped transform the campus with decorations, including a tiger gate created by Upper School Art & Design students that welcomed the community as they arrived. Tiberius made a much-appreciated appearance, adding to the celebratory atmosphere and delighting students across all divisions.

One of the most meaningful moments of the day came as each class walked onto the field holding banners signed by their peers, proudly displaying their graduating year. For younger students, it was a glimpse into the future; for older students, a reflection on how far they have come. The celebration culminated in a standout moment for the senior class, who ran through a banner and into a tunnel formed by the rest of the school—an experience marked by excitement, pride, and strong support from both faculty and families.

What stood out the most was the breadth of participation. Students across all divisions, along with faculty and staff, contributed to a shared atmosphere of enthusiasm and pride. As one Grade 5 attendee reflected “it was really special to see the whole school come together like this. You don’t always get to feel how connected everyone is across divisions, but today made that really clear.”

More than a single day of activities, Tiger Tuesday represents an evolving effort to strengthen community identity at TAS. It reflects a growing emphasis on creating opportunities for connection – moments where the entire school can come together and celebrate as one.

Looking ahead, Tiger Tuesday is expected to become a recurring part of the TAS experience, continuing to evolve as a cornerstone of school spirit. As Caroline Baugh, Chief Advisor & External Relations Officer noted, “School spirit starts with coming together, but it grows into something deeper – connection, belonging, and a shared sense of identity. Tiger Tuesday is just the beginning of what that can look like at TAS.”
