Why a TAS Start is the Best Start for Your Little Tiger

Why a TAS Start is the Best Start for Your Little Tiger

By Lindsey Kundel, Director of Communications and Marketing

In preparation for this year's Lower School Open House, TAS is shining the spotlight on our incredible early childhood program. Every Wednesday for the next month, we will publish a new article about our early childhood program, with information to help any prospective family as they consider becoming a Tiger family.

In the tranquil suburb of Tianmu, Taipei American School (TAS) stands tall as a testament to over seven decades of educational brilliance. Since its inception in 1949, TAS has been a beacon for families seeking an American-based education with a global perspective. But what truly makes TAS the preferred choice for early childhood education?

Director of Admissions, Michael O’Neill, initiates our exploration: "Beyond the state-of-the-art infrastructure, it's our values and ethos that draw parents to TAS. We pride ourselves on cultivating learners who, from their earliest years, are shaped to be leaders, innovators, and compassionate global citizens."

Our Lower School, which houses our eager kindergarteners, plays a crucial role in setting the foundation for academic and personal growth. Dr. Tara Simeonidis, Lower School Principal, shares, "At TAS, every child is recognized as an individual with unique potential. Our American-based curriculum, enhanced by a global context, ensures they receive a broad, balanced, and invigorating education."

But education isn't merely about academics; it's about holistic development. Rebecca Schiff, Lower School Counselor, speaks to the school’s commitment to mental and emotional well-being. "The early years are transformative, filled with wonder, and curiosity, but also challenges. At TAS, we prioritize the mental and emotional well-being of our students, ensuring they feel supported, understood, and cherished."

Furthermore, TAS’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment is unwavering. E-chieh Lin, Director of Inclusion and Wellbeing, elaborates: " We believe every student brings a unique perspective, and our role is to ensure they feel valued and included.  We work with our students on valuing differences, developing their social-emotional skills, and accepting people for who they are.  Inclusion isn't just a word for us; it's woven into the very fabric of our teaching and community. "

The comprehensive offering at TAS goes beyond the confines of a regular school day. The plethora of extracurricular activities, coupled with an unmistakable culture of excellence and commitment to the creative arts and STEAM, ensures TAS students are well-rounded individuals, ready to take on the world.

Deputy Head of School, Dr. Liz Gale, encapsulates the TAS promise: "Our mission extends beyond textbooks and classrooms. It's about instilling an enduring commitment to learning, personal well-being, and service. We aim to develop students of character, armed with knowledge and empathy, ready to make impactful changes in our global community."

For parents in Taipei and beyond, choosing Taipei American School for their child's early education is about entrusting them to a legacy of excellence, a community of inclusivity, and a future of limitless potential. At TAS, education isn't just a process; it's a transformative journey.
