World Kindness Day Brings TAS Together in Bright Colors and Big Hearts

World Kindness Day Brings TAS Together in Bright Colors and Big Hearts

On November 13, Taipei American School celebrated World Kindness Day by inviting students and staff to pause, reflect, and shine a little more light into the world. Dressed in bright colors and shirts printed with uplifting messages, the entire community came together to celebrate the ways kindness shapes life at TAS.

Throughout the week, students from across the Lower, Middle, and Upper School prepared messages that will be featured on the Kindness Appreciation Board, a schoolwide display hosted in partnership with the PTA. From thoughtful reflections to colorful illustrations, the board showcases how students of all ages understand kindness and how meaningful small gestures can build a strong, connected community.

In the Lower School, students explored kindness through age-appropriate activities that prompted deeper conversations. Kindergarten to Grade 2 students worked together on class posters, each adding a heart or handprint to represent their personal commitment to kindness. Students in Grades 3 to 5 wrote about meaningful moments when kindness impacted their day or helped them feel seen. Grade 5 student leaders supported their younger peers by preparing materials, collecting submissions, and helping display each class’s final work.

Schoolwide, students also took part in Chalk the Walk, filling designated chalk graffiti walls with messages that encouraged empathy, responsibility, and courage. These short, heartfelt reminders reflected the shared values that guide student life at TAS, inviting others to pause and consider how they might bring more kindness into their own day.

A highlight of the celebration was the gratitude project for TAS Support Staff. Students created personalized thank you cards for teams across campus, many taking care to include each staff member by name. These simple, genuine messages expressed appreciation for the people who keep the school running smoothly and help students feel safe, supported, and cared for each day.

Adding to the celebration was a new World Kindness Day video featuring students from all three divisions sharing what kindness means to them. The video is playing on screens across campus and is available on the TAS YouTube channel, offering the community a chance to see and hear students’ reflections.

World Kindness Day is more than a single event at TAS. It reflects the school’s mission to cultivate personal well-being and inspire students to make the world a better place. The activities encouraged students to look inward, express gratitude, and act with intention, reinforcing the belief that everyday choices can build a happy, respectful, and inclusive community.

As students wrote in chalk, created posters, filmed reflections, and shared thank-you cards, they did more than talk about kindness. They lived it. And in doing so, they helped illuminate how compassion, responsibility, and care are woven into daily life at Taipei American School.
