Grade 2 STEAM activity

Overview: Mathematics

Our program follows the best research and practices available for supporting high achievement in mathematics and sets our lower school students up for success in any middle school math program whether at TAS or elsewhere.

We follow a set of K-5 standards and benchmarks for mathematics based on the Common Core state standards. These standards represent a rigorous set of expectations supported by research in best practices and designed to ensure high achievement in mathematics for all students. The program sets our lower school students up for success in any middle school math program whether at TAS or elsewhere.

In our mastery curriculum, there is greater focus on fewer topics at each level of mathematics with an expectation of mastery of more concepts at each level. When instruction focuses on a smaller number of key areas, students gain extended experience with core concepts and skills. Such experiences facilitate deep understanding, mathematical fluency, and an ability to generalize.

Please follow the link below to view the K-5 Common Core standards and benchmarks. These standards and benchmarks are intended to be a floor, not a ceiling. Students who are able to go beyond these benchmarks will be provided opportunities to explore concepts in greater depth.

We use the Eureka Math program because it represents the best match to our standards and benchmarks and provides the best link with our middle school program. As with all curricular areas at TAS that use a program resource, Eureka Math is the major resource but not the only resource used for student learning. Supplemental materials are regularly used to ensure a high level of learning for all students.
