The Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) Committee is a group dedicated to making Taipei American School a more just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive learning community.
The JEDI Committee's primary work is with faculty development, as we are a group comprised primarily of faculty. Thus, we work to raise the level of faculty dialogue and the discussion of best practices in pedagogy and curriculum. This is the primary task of the JEDI Committee, but it does play a role in work beyond the faculty.
This is made plain in the wording of the schoolwide commitment statement, a document which lays foundational principles for all community members. That statement, authored by the JEDI Commitee, has been adopted across the school as a statement of schoolwide philosophy and commitment.
Additionally, in the strategic planning process of 2021, the JEDI Committee has helped design and implement information gathering surveys and also given direct feedback on strategic plan drafts that will shape the next five years of school direction. Members of the JEDI Committee have aided in crafting lessons and curricula for use in middle school homeroom lessons and upper school advisory sessions.
In sum, beyond the primary task of faculty professional development, the JEDI Committee serves as a consultation and development group for school policies and programs related to the issues of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
