Welcome to Lower School Music

Welcome! TAS has a proud tradition of having an excellent music program, part of a vibrant Performing Arts Department which includes equally fine Dance and Drama programs. Because we believe in the importance of the arts in education, all TAS students have music as a required part of the curriculum from KA until 6th grade. When students enter 7th grade music classes become electives, which a large percentage of our students continue to pursue until they graduate. TAS has 11 full-time music teachers and several more part-time music teachers teaching KA – 12th grade classroom, instrumental, and vocal music as well as AP music in the high school. We have a busy schedule of concerts throughout the year and regularly host IASAS Music and Cultural conventions as well as professional development workshops for music teachers from TAS and abroad.

We do not require our music students to take private lessons outside of the classes we offer at school. A large percentage of TAS students do take advantage of the many after school classes offered on campus by TYPA (Taipei Youth Program Association), which include music lessons on a variety of instruments and voice. For information about TYPA click here.

In the Lower School, all students KA - grade 5 have Classroom Music.  In addition, students in grades  3-5 also have another music class as part of our Music Activity Program (MAP).  We provide all of our students with a well-rounded and creative music program that includes singing, playing instruments, movement, and the development of musical literacy skills.  For information about Classroom Music click here

Thank you for your support of your child's music education.  We look forward to an exciting year working with your children to bring them the best music learning experiences possible.
