Middle School Reminder: Planned Absences & Late Arrivals

Please communicate all student absences through PowerSchool. If your child will miss two or more days of school for a planned absence, please review the Middle School absence policy and procedures below.

Planned Absences

At TAS, we recognize that important events outside of school, such as family weddings or a sibling’s college graduation, may occasionally conflict with the school schedule. Except in cases of illness or family emergencies, however, students are expected to be in school when school is in session.

Vacation dates are published well in advance so families can plan travel and other experiences during school breaks. We ask families to avoid taking students out of school at other times whenever possible.

If a planned absence is necessary:

• Parents or guardians must report the absence through PowerSchool at least three days in advance.
• The Middle School Office will notify teachers and counselors, but students should also communicate directly with their teachers.
• Students will receive a planned absence form and should meet with their teachers promptly to make arrangements for missed work.
• Teachers may require assignments or assessments to be completed before the absence, electronically while the student is away, or immediately upon the student’s return.

Students are responsible for following the arrangements made with their teachers. If these procedures are not followed, teachers may not be able to provide opportunities to make up graded work or reteach missed material. Any outstanding work will be due when the student returns to school.

Late Arrivals

If your child arrives late to school, please remind them to check in at the Middle School Office before going to class.
