Middle School Service Initiatives: Readathon and Walkathon

Middle School Service Initiatives: Readathon and Walkathon

During April in homerooms, Grade 6 students have been focusing on communication skills, and Grade 7 and 8 students have been focusing on the meaning of community - what we bring to our communities and how we can be successful community members. Grade 8 students have been working on presentations that will help younger members of our community integrate into middle school. In Grades 6 and 7, we have been building towards several upcoming service initiatives that will give our students meaningful opportunities to support others while building community, empathy, and leadership through action.

Over the coming weeks, Middle School students may reach out to family members and friends to request pledges connected to these events, either based on the number of pages they read or the number of laps they complete. Following the events, students will also be reaching out during the next week to collect pledged donations, which should be returned by May 22. We greatly appreciate your encouragement and support as students take part in these worthwhile efforts.

Grade 6 Readathon

Our Grade 6 students will participate in a two-week Readathon from April 30 through May 15 in support of PACK Taiwan. Through reading and collecting pledges, students will turn a positive personal habit into a way of helping others.

Grade 7 Walkathon

Our Grade 7 Walkathon launched on April 29, with students gathering pledges in advance of the walk itself on May 14. This initiative supports Taiwan Sunshine and the I Am a Hero Games.

These initiatives reflect our commitment to helping students understand that service can take many forms and shows care for the wider community. Thank you for your continued support of our students and of the values these experiences help develop.
