Guidelines for a Thoughtful and Inclusive Halloween Celebration in the Middle School

Thoughtful and Inclusive Halloween Celebrations

We will celebrate Halloween in the middle school this year on Thursday, October 29.

As we approach Halloween, we want to ensure that the celebration remains festive, creative, and welcoming for all students. Halloween can be a wonderful opportunity for imagination, fun, and community building — but only when everyone feels included and respected.

When choosing costumes, please encourage your child to think thoughtfully about their choices. Costumes should be fun and expressive without drawing on stereotypes, mocking cultural or religious groups, or representing someone’s identity as a theme. Help your child focus on what makes a costume creative — not controversial.

To ensure a safe and positive experience for all students, please also remember:

No weapons of any kind, real or pretend — including toy guns, swords, bows and arrows, or martial arts items. These will be confiscated if brought to school.

Masks or face coverings may not fully obscure a student’s identity.

Costumes need to allow full participation in the school day, including learning and safety routines.

Thank you for helping us make Halloween a fun, inclusive, and respectful celebration for every student.
