What to Expect This December: Looking Ahead to the End of Semester 1

What to Expect This December: Looking Ahead to the End of Semester 1

As we look ahead to December and the end of the first semester, we want to share what Upper School students and families can expect.

Our approach continues to center on a few key goals:

  • Supporting student well-being
  • Creating space for varied and authentic forms of assessment
  • Extending meaningful learning through the end of the semester
  • Providing opportunities for our community to come together and close the semester well

What to Expect

In early December, Zero Homework Days will help students focus on preparing for their classes’ final graded work. Deadlines for final graded work will also be staggered across departments to help distribute student workload.

During the final stretch of the semester, we will transition to a Wrap-Up Schedule, featuring later starts and fewer class periods each day. Grade 12 students will also have dedicated opportunities to focus on college applications.

The final days of the semester will provide additional time for assessment make-ups, teacher check-ins, and completing remaining end-of-semester responsibilities.

Every Day Counts

Meaningful learning continues throughout December. Students should plan to attend all scheduled classes through Wednesday, December 16.

Thursday, December 17
This day is reserved for students who need to complete or make up final assessments. There will be no regularly scheduled classes.

Friday, December 18
The final day of the semester is an optional half day for students to check in with teachers and wrap up the semester. Dismissal will be at 11:30 AM.
