1:1 Laptop Program

Students in Grade 9 are required to have a laptop provided through our school's hardware integration partner.

Grade 10, 11, and 12 students are required to have an appropriate laptop that meets or exceeds the specifications below.

Students in Grades 10-12 can either purchase a device recommended by TAS, or select a device of their choosing via our College Prep Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program.

Hardware

TAS Devices

Grade 9 students are required to use a TAS-recommended device purchased through our school’s hardware integration partner. Using a TAS-recommended device in grade 9 helps provide our students with a smooth transition as they move from middle school to upper school. In Grades 10-12, students have the option to move to the College Prep BYOD program.

TAS recommends Lenovo laptops, due to their cost, weight, durability, battery life, functions, sustainability, and on-island vendor partnership. The Lenovo Yoga tablet comes with an international warranty.

College Prep BYOD

Students in Grades 10-12 are required to have a suitable laptop. They may either use a school-recommended laptop, or they may begin our "College Prep Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) program.

Whatever solution they choose, it must meet or exceed the specifications noted below, which are the minimum standards based on a school-provisioned laptop (from Grades 6-8) entering its fourth year of use.

Students should not expect a five or six-year-old laptop to be sufficient for current use.

Software

Software on TAS Devices

Students' devices are pre-loaded with software to support their learning. All new TAS laptops run Windows Professional, installed in US English. From Grade 9, all TAS students have full admin rights on their devices.

BYOD Software

Students' BYOD laptop must be able to run school-provided software. Students may choose to do this using multiple components (i.e. a MacBook Air + an iPad for pen input). When working with Windows and other Microsoft products, or other Windows-only products, it will be up to the student to meet the needs of the class by either running Windows emulation on another operating system (MacOS, Linux, etc.) or purchasing an alternative version of the same software title at their own expense.

TAS Device Information

TAS Laptop Warranty

The TAS laptop models include a hardware warranty and accidental damage insurance.

If the laptop is one of the supported models, then the school's IT Department will provide support for both hardware and software problems. The manufacturer's warranty will cover hardware defects; The Lenovo ThinkPad Protection program covers accidental damage policy with a maximum co-pay of NT$8,925+ 5% tax. In the event that a laptop needs to be sent away for repair, the student will receive a "loaner" laptop. An additional 4th year warranty can be purchased during the first 30 months after delivery.

Purchasing a TAS Laptop

For new students entering Grade 9, students have the option of purchasing a TAS-recommended device they can use throughout upper school or leasing a laptop for the first year and then moving into the BYOD program with their own device in Grade 10.

Ordering laptops occurs during registration and delivery occurs during new student orientation.

Laptop Care Tips

There are many ways that students can keep their laptop free of damage. Please review these tips with your child, and help them make good choices when using their TAS laptop or personal devices. Daily diligence and good habits can help avoid costly repairs.
