Turning Tigers into Tiger Sharks

Making Waves of Student Confidence

In line with our mission's emphasis on learning, personal well-being, and service, the Taipei American School aquatics program delivers highly trained faculty and facilities to maximize these benefits and more for our students.  We want all of our Tigers to leave our campus (and pool) feeling confident and competent—and able to bring their love of the water to others.

One of the few schools in Asia equipped, with a 25-meter, 7-lane indoor pool with Daktronics timing system and an electronic scoreboard. Specially designed swim platforms are employed during our learn-to-swim and physical education programs. The full locker room is equipped with individual showers, bathrooms, and lockers.

K-10 Aquatic Curriculum

The TAS K-10 curriculum focuses on water familiarization, fundamental skills, stroke development, safety skills, and recreational activities. The lessons are designed for TAS students to learn and develop aquatic skills that suit their ability level. So come on in; the water’s fine.

The Tigersharks Swim Team

The Tigersharks Swim Team is an option for more advanced swimmers that focuses on developing swimming skills related to the sport of swimming. Participants should be able to comfortably lap-swim using freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, with good technique.

Tigersharks is offered to TAS Lower, Middle and Upper School students in Seasons 1, 3 and 4.

Lower School students interested in Tigersharks should attend a swimming assessment to ensure participation will be an enjoyable experience and will meet their individual needs.

The Swimzone Learn-to-Swim Program

The Swimzone learn-to-swim program (K-Grade 5) focuses on water familiarization and the development of swimming strokes and skills. Locally certified instructors teach the classes with Aquatics faculty supervising at all times. Lessons take place in the all and the spring.

Athletic Swim Teams

Competitive Swim Teams for Upper School (Varsity), Middle School Grades 7 & 8 and Middle School Grade 6 take place during Season 2. These programs are offered by the TAS Athletics Department, with support from Aquatics.
