Research and Presentation Skills - Grades 4 & 5

Schedule: Session 1:  June 6 - June 17 (8:00 am - 12:00 pm) 
                  Session 2:  June 20 - July 1  (8:00 am - 12:00 pm) 

This course is designed to strengthen the non-fiction reading, research and presentation skills of students before entering upper elementary/middle school where these skills are necessary for academic success. Students will engage in a variety of learning activities designed to teach them to understand complex non-fiction texts. Emphasis will also be placed on oral and visual presentation skills that will allow students to present their findings with confidence and effectiveness. They will also learn how to accurately paraphrase their learning into their own words using a variety of note taking strategies. Evaluating the reliability and validity of sources will also be examined in this course.

This course is designed for students with an interest in non-fiction reading and learning. Research will be conducted around topics of interest to the students at their appropriate reading level, so an advanced level of English reading is not required.
